vehículo (veh-ee’-koo-loh)

(noun) vehicle, car

We are looking for an official corrector for the Spanish sentences. If you are interested, please send me a PM.

Estamos buscando un corrector oficial de las frases en español. Si usted está interesado, por favor envíeme un PM.

Sinmeta will be correcting the Spanish sentences as his time permits. We still need more help with this very important task. Please correct your sentences according to his suggestions.

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Have fun experimenting with Spanish.

How to post a picture

Examples:

** 1. Ese avión es un vehículo de carga.**

  • That plane is a cargo vehicle.*

** 2. La familia Méndez se acaba de comprar un vehículo nuevo para acomodar a siete personas.**

  • The Méndez family just bought a new car to accommodate seven people.*

Thanks to everyone that has been helping to correct in the palabra del día. I know it is a time-consuming job and we all are very appreciative of your work and dedication to us and to SD!!

We still haven't heard from Annie (Rac1) and we think her internet went down. Wishing you well wherever you are Rac1! -Martha-

Ambition is the path to success. Persistence is the vehicle you arrive in.

La ambición es el camino al éxito. La persistencia es el vehículo en el que llegas.

Si la rueda no hubiera sido inventado por alguna una mujer muy flaca, aún no tendríamos vehículos como camiones o aviones.

If the wheel had not been invented by some lazy woman, we would still not have vehicles, such as lorries, nor aeroplanes.

Los aviónes son los vehículos más importantes inventados en la historia del transporte que ayudó a viajar a lo largo del mundo dentro de un período corto de tiempo. Realmente un gran invento!

Airplaines are the most important invented vehicles in the history of transportation which helped in traveling along the World within short period of time. Really great invention!

Women need to know how to take care of their cars. They need to know how to check the oil, brake fluid, and radiator fluid. Las mujeres necesitan saber cuidar de sus vehículos. Necesitan saber controlar el aceite, líquido de frenos y líquido del radiador.

Si Manity, gracias! :-) - pmikan-pam, Apr 16, 2013
Las mujeres should be ellas, no? And it seems you don't need the pronoun at all, you have already stated who's they in the previous sentence. - Manity, Apr 16, 2013
Ack, sorry, it seems I misled you. "Las mujeres necesitan [...]. Necesitan [...]." See what I mean? - Manity, Apr 16, 2013
Not a problem thanks Manity - pmikan-pam, Apr 16, 2013
They should do that , good advice Pam !! - shish75, Apr 16, 2013
Hola Pam, I agree:), but for Spanish I'd say: “Las mujeres necesitan saber cuidar de sus vehículos. Necesitan saber revisar el aceite, líquido de frenos y líquido del radiador. ":) - migelis, Apr 16, 2013
To know how to do something = saber hacer algo :), so you don't need "cómo". :) - migelis, Apr 16, 2013
Thanks shish, my daddy taught me how to take care of my car. :-) - pmikan-pam, Apr 16, 2013
Thank you migelis, you are a greata help/ - pmikan-pam, Apr 16, 2013
Mi consejo: seria mejor obtener un hombre, a quien le gusta cuidar al coche.. - annierats, Apr 16, 2013

Las lluvias tuvieron la culpa del vuelco del vehículo

The rain was to blame for the overturning of the car

Typo on 'rain'.... unless Rani is a person, then you need to capitalize it... just a little late afternoon humor. haha - katydew, Apr 16, 2013
haha. thanks for catching that mistake. I just noticed that i spelled 'overturning ' wrong also - Rey_Mysterio, Apr 16, 2013

Money is only a vehicle that provides you with options, and I say there's only one thing that money can't buy - poverty. (Jerry Doyle)

When I got my car the summer before my senior year in high school, I named him Ernie.

Cuando conseguí mi vehículo el verano antes de mi último año de la escuela secundaria, le llamé Ernie.

Mi primer vehículo era un Rambler. Fue un carro muy desagradable, pero aún tengo un espacio para ello en mi corazón.
