The trick is that with estar (estás) 'aburrido' means bored, but with ser (eres) it means boring.

?Estás aburrido/a? Are you bored?

?Eres aburrido/a? Are you boring?

So how do you think you'd answer those questions?

Unfortunately, in order to simplify explanations this is often taught, ser for permanent things and estar for temporary things. But this is not always the case - soy (ser) estudiante, está (estar) muerto, he's dead. - Kiwi-Girl, Apr 12, 2013
