How do you say necklace in spanish? El collar doesn't sound right.

El colgante is a necklace with something that is hanging down from it, like a pendant. But sometimes I hear it used for a necklace in general too interchangeably (Chile). It is very common here. I also hear el collar. Sounds weird to us as English speakers, but that's what it means here. I usually hear it more in the context of a close-fitting necklace like a "choker". La cadena is the actual chain. Mrs. Obama is wearing a "collar". The other 2 I posted are 'colgantes'.

*Interesting fact: COLGAR means "to hang" and COLGATE (like the toothpaste) is reflexive and it means "To hang yourself!" Haha
It actually is "el collar". "El colgante" is another way to say it but it is uncommon.
