proper uses of tu and su
How do you know when to use the word "su" or "tu" for the word "your"?

Use tu when you would refer to the person you're speaking to as tú - a friend, peer, child etc.
Use su when you would refer to the person you're speaking to as usted - an elder, a stranger, a teacher etc.
eg: Hijo ¿cuál es tu tarea? Son what's your homework?
Señor ¿este es su carro? Sir, is this your car?
Good question....
You = tú (informal singular) Usted (formal singular) both are personal pronouns
Your .= tu (informal singlar) Su (formal singular also means his her, and its) both are possessive adjectives.
I always get confused which " tu" has the acccent mark.
Kiwi gave you a good answer. I would only add that su would be used for people in authority generally such as a police officer, your boss, or anyone older to whom you would want to/feel right to show particular respect!
