Double object pronouns: replace the direct objects with direct object pronouns

Rewrite each sentence, replacing the direct objects with direct object pronouns.

  1. La camarera te sirvió el plato de pasta con mariscos. La camarera te las sirvió. (I have also tried la)
  2. ¿Te recomendaron este restaurante Lola y Paco? ¿Te lo recomendaron los restaurante? (I tried something else, but cant remember)

The sentences in italics are my answers. The part in bold are wrong. Could someone tell me what I did wrong and how I can fix the problem??

Thank you!!

Hi there! First of all, I am so glad to see that you have already given an effort to solve the problem yourself. Too often, one sees people asking others to do their homework for them without even lifting a finger to do it themselves. Keep it up!

Now, to answer your question:

  1. Think about it this way: what did the waitress serve you? She served "el plato de pasta". "El plato" is the direct object, and since it is masculine singular, it needs a masculine singular pronoun, or lo.

  2. This one is easier. You got the pronoun right, but you don't need the "los restaurante" part in your answer. (It should be either "los restaurantes" or "el restaurante") In English, you don't say "Did they recommend it to you the restaurant?" Instead, you say "did they recommend it to you?" So I believe the correct answer in this case would be ¿Te lo recomendaron?

I tried "¿Te lo recomendaron?" and it was marked wrong. I tried it again, and they said the correct answer is: "¿Te lo recomendaron Lola y Paco?"

Too many times academia is concerned with your giving them the answers they want rather than your demonstrating your knowledge. In the real world both answers are gramatically correct. The conjugation of "recomendar" indicates "ellos". "¿Te lo recomendaron?" is correct if we know who "ellos" is. If we don´t know, then "¿Te lo recomendaron Lola y Paco?" is correct (in this case "Lola y Paco" supports "ellos").

Anyways, the other answer of yours was correct. Thanks soooooooo much for helping and explaining!!
