What is the difference in meaning of "aguantar" and "soportar"?

Generally, "agunatar" is to support something physically.

  • Esa estantería no va a aguantar el peso de los libros = That shelf won't take the weight of the books.

"Soportar" is to tolerate or put up with someone / something.

  • ¡No lo soporto! = I can't stand him/it!
