We are looking for an official corrector for the Spanish sentences. If you are interested, please send me a PM.

Estamos buscando un corrector oficial de las frases en español. Si usted está interesado, por favor envíeme un PM.

Sinmeta will be correcting the Spanish sentences as his time permits. We still need more help with this very important task. Please correct your sentences according to his suggestions.

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Have fun experimenting with Spanish.

** 1. Ella vive independientemente. No busca ayuda de sus papás ni de sus amigos.**

  • She lives independently. She does not look for help from her parents nor from her friends.*

** 2. El jugador de baloncesto se declarará agente libre independientemente de donde sea traspasado.**

  • The basketball player will be declared a free agent independently of where he gets transferred.*

Thanks to everyone that has been helping to correct in the palabra del día. I know it is a time-consuming job and we all are very appreciative of your work and dedication to us and to SD!!

We still haven't heard from Annie (Rac1) and we think her internet went down. We are sure Annie will be back when she is able to! -Martha-

A veces, es bueno tratar de ser independiente. Pero cuando necesitas ayuda, no dudes en pedirla; por eso tienes amigos.

Sometimes, it's good to try to be independent. But when you need help, don't hesitate to ask for it; that's what friends are for.

Good one. Just remember because you're using the word ayuda, it should be pedirla instead of pedirlo. - sinmeta, Apr 3, 2013

... para todos los que quieran (subjunctive) estudiar .... I think subjunctive would be more appropriate here because you're not talking about known people, but rather people who may want to study Spanish. - sinmeta, Apr 3, 2013
Thanks, Sinmeta. But I remember that after some thought I changed the original subjunctive back into an indicative, on account of the 'SpanishDict IS , instead of 'would be' a great help. The advice of a native speaker would be highly appreciated. - Castor77, Apr 3, 2013
You're right of course that we don't really know any of the people on this site. But probably the reason why they're here is that they not just might but truly wish to learn the language. - Castor77, Apr 3, 2013
I like Sinmeta's interpretation and recommendation of the subjunctive. The indicative may also work but the meaning is different. It implies you know the people who are studying Spanish as Sinmeta suggested. - francobollo, Apr 3, 2013
That's precisely why I decided to change my first version, because I thought it would be a little bit unfriendly to regard the SpanishDict community as complete strangers. But if you prefer the subjunctive, so be it. ;-) - Castor77, Apr 4, 2013
