Using an Infinitive as an adjective

Using an Infinitive as an adjective

Is there any rule (or easy way) to change an infinitive into an adjective? For Example: Cerrar - "To Close:" - "¿Se puede cerrar la puerta?" Cerrado (a) - "Closed:" - "La puerta está cerrada." To use "cerrar" as an adjective "-ada" or "-ado" is added to the stem "cerr-." Or do I have to learn the Spanish adjective as I would any other word? How about adverbs? Same thing? Thanks

If you look up Past participle in the grammar you will find the the general rules and the exceptions

The general rule is remove the infinitive ending (ar,,er ir) and 'ado' for ar verbs and 'ido' fo er or ir verbs. So for your verb the steps are Cerrrar... cerr... cerrado

Now there are also exceptions

In terms of adverbs, the general rule is to use the feminine" for of the adjective and add "mente" if there is not a distinct feminine form also use "mente " See grammar lesson on adverbs for the exceptions and more examples of use.

Hope this helps
