adonde - (to) where

donde - where

¿adonde vamos? - (to) where are we going?

¿donde estamos? - where are we?

Good question, Dan. Welcome to the forum.

As the others said, they are used a bit differently. "Adonde" indicates movement and "donde" does not.

The word in a question ¿Adónde? or in a statement adonde are used with a verb like ir. So the idea is "to where."

The word in a question ¿Dónde? or a statement donde are used with a verb like estar. So the idea is "where."
