protestar ( pro-tes-tahr' )

verb ( to protest, to object )

We are looking for an official corrector for the Spanish sentences. If you are interested, please send me a PM.

Estamos buscando un corrector oficial de las frases en español. Si usted está interesado, por favor envíeme un PM.

Sinmeta will be correcting the Spanish sentences as his time permits. We still need more help with this very important task. Please correct your sentences according to his suggestions.

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Have fun experimenting with Spanish.

Examples:

1. Empezaron a protestar cuando les eliminaron sus días de vacaciones.

They began to protest when they eliminated their vacation days.

2. Cuando la gente protesta es porque quieren un cambio.

When people protest it is because they want a change.

I wanted to send a special thanks to everyone that has been helping to correct in the palabra del dia. I know it is a time-consuming job and we all are very appreciative of your work and dedication to us and to SD!!

Pienso que la dama protesta demasiado. Ésta frase significa que cuando se niega algo con tanta fuerza, personas pueden tener la idea que la opuesta es la verdad.

The lady doth protest too much, methinks. This sentence means that when one denies something with too much force, people can have the idea that the opposite is true.

¿ Protestarías ,si como de Chipre , tu gobierno decidió a quitar cerca de veinte cinco porciento de tú dinero desde tú cuenta bancaria ? No creo que estaría muy feliz con esa situación y yo necesitaría protestar.

Would you protest ,if like Cyprus , your government decided to take about twenty five percent of your money form your bank account.? I don't think that I would be very happy with that situation and would need to protest.

In my town we are protesting against having our water flouidated.

En mi pueblo estamos protestando contra tener nuestra agua flouidated.

enter image description here

The state of Arkansas says that any water system that serves over 5,000 customers shall put flouride in the water although an overwhelming majority of the people voted against it.

You can't regulate dosage when some people drink more water than others.

Only 10% of the water is ingested. The rest is used for cleaning, watering lawns, industry, etc...

The suppliers of the flouride do not have to provide any data, not even the country of origin.

States with the highest rate of flouridation also have the highest rates of tooth decay and tooth loss.

Flouride is a known neurotoxin and toothpaste has warnings against ingestion.

If you really wanted to have a public tooth decay policy, you would take all that money and provide free topical applications to children.
