¿Alguien sabe la forma más barata a viajar en España ,

el tren autobús o coche.?

Does anyone know the cheapest way to travel inside Spain.

Would it be using local buses , train , or private car , or rental ?

Oh , my donkey riding days are over.

Depends where you are Ray but the trains and buses are great. The new trains are super fast comfortable and do great food. Of course you can hire a car but depending where you visit the parking and hassle may not justify it.

The joy of very good public transport is you can leave it behind. I use the buses all the time here in Menorca (got my bus pass), and when I lived in Barcelona, I relied on the train service and taxis, which then were very affordable. The cabbies don't rip you off either.

I must say, compared with the UK the public transport system in Spain is miles ahead, as is the National Health system. Get in touch if you plan to come to Spain, I'm out of the way but not THAT out of the way grin

I may be staying near "Denia" mate which as far as I can see is a staging place to go to Menorca . - ray76, Mar 23, 2013
Send me a private msg with your dates and plans Ray - lagartijaverde, Mar 23, 2013

A little off topic, but you might want to consider Vaughan Town. You stay in a Spanish town for a week with free room and board in exchange for teaching English to Spanish people. The downside is you aren't allowed to speak Spanish. I've never done it myself, but it sounds like fun; and a good way to meet people.

Hi Ray

I had a look at Vaughan Town as suggested by Helind - a neat idea for Spaniards to improve their English - if they can afford it.

I even filled out their application form and then looked at their website where it said "any knowledge of teaching English" is a NO NO - ha ha

That lets me out then.

It really is just a form of an English speaking Club Med for Spaniards where un-paid native English speakers (with no knowledge of teaching English of course) do all the work in exchange for "free" accomdation. (pay your own fare to get there).

Why didn't we think of that? (oh we did in a way) but ours would include Spanish lessons for ex-pats as well. We just need to buy a derelict Spanish village, do it up and make a fortune.

Are you finally getting to go?

My friends that lived there for 2 years always used the metro, the trains and the buses to get around. They never had a car the whole time. I've never been there but I wish you well and may you send many a photo to us that stay on this side of the hemisphere. Maybe I'll be asking your advice one of these days when I finally get to go.

Lots of people go to the train station when traveling in Spain, fearing that taking a bus will be more difficult. It will be, but that does not make it impossible. It is usually much cheaper to travel by bus and you will often save time too. However if anyone want to travel around Spain Eddie’s Kosher Travel can arrange rent cars, cheap flights, hotel and all other facilities at reasonable cost.

Ray, If you ever come to the Midwest USA you can stay in our spare bedroom in our "casita". It will be similar to visits to the poorer countries - not the luxurious lifestyle of many countrymen.
