Interesting Use of Pasar

This is not a question but I think it is a useful grammar tip for the future.

El pobre - ¿Sabes que 845 millones de personas pasan hambre?

El rico - Me solidarizo con ellos, yo tambien paso del hambre.

The poor man - Do you know that 845 million people are suffering from hunger?

The rich man - I sympathise with them. I also can't be bothered about hunger..

Pasar de (algo) - To not be bothered about something.

Then there is the noun pasota In the '70s the right wingers used to use this epithet as a put down for left-wingers, liberals, los progres and of course hippies. The idea is that the person is apathetic, a dropout, you get the picture.

¡Eres un pasota tio, pasas de todoí would roughly translate as

"You're a complete waster man, no sense of responsibility!"

As far as I am aware it is everyday use. We use something similar in English. "We have been invited to John's wedding. I think I will pass on that", ie, I can't be bothered going even though they have invited us. - Eddy, Mar 23, 2013

In answer to katydew's comment, I have always been around. Spend most of my time just looking at the site and absorbing interesting items.
