"La manija de la puerta se salió." means that the door handle came off while "El pomo de la puerta se salió." means that the door knob came off. This can be tricky because some think that "door knob" and "door handle" are the same exact thing but they are not.

Door handle means: Manija de la puerta. (handle of the door) Door knob means: Pomo de la puerta. (knob of the door)
