Cuando debo usar cual palabra para decir "halibut" en español?

When should I use mero, fletán, hipogloso, etc.? What are the differences? I plan on going fishing, and I want to be able to ask the other fisherman for advice about where I should go to catch Halibut. Any help clarifying this would be appreciated.

Don't use mero, that is grouper and not halibut, even though there are some dictionaries that give that usage. Fletán or halibut is commonly used, fletán more so, I think. The problem with common names of fish is that one fish can have a different name depending on location.
