G A M E. Descriptive writing and actions

G A M E. Descriptive writing and actions

10
votes

This game is to help us expand our vocabulary when it comes to describing actions.

How To Play:

Imagine that you're writing a novel and you need to describe your character or characters doing all sorts of actions.

State one action verb, in Spanish and English and write a short descriptive sentence using the verb.

If you're reading a Spanish book feel free to quote a phrase from the book, as forming these kind of action sentences are not always intuitive.

Feel free to add a picture.

If you're reading a book feel free to use examples that you come across in your book..

Eg. I'll start us off ....

Verb: codearse - to nudge

Sample phrase: Se codeaban. They nudged each other.

If we keep the sentences short and sweet that should help us to avoid grammatical errors so that we can just focus on just the actions and the verbs. This in turn should help us to remember them.

Nice one Ian :) - Kiwi-Girl, Mar 11, 2013
Hey where did that first sentence go? Lol. I liked vendía better as the occupation of selling was ongoing, not a one off completed action. :) - - Kiwi-Girl, Mar 11, 2013
- short and sweet is good for this game :) - Kiwi-Girl, Mar 11, 2013
Kiwi - I could have wriiten "she froze to death" - but thought that would be a bit too strong. - ian-hill, Mar 11, 2013
You run into trouble when you add frío because you need to make sure the gender agrees and also you can't use ser so the 'era' won't cover the frío. But rather than having to worry about grammar, short little phrases will allow us to focus on one action. - Kiwi-Girl, Mar 11, 2013
so this one was perfect - Ella vendía fósforos porque era pobre. - Kiwi-Girl, Mar 11, 2013
oops - gracias KIwi - ian-hill, Mar 11, 2013
All good :) - Kiwi-Girl, Mar 11, 2013

:) - bandit51jd, Mar 11, 2013
Generally, we'd say "..por el calor..." (because of the sun, the sun is responsible for the melting). - --Mariana--, Mar 11, 2013
Don't worry about longer sentences Bandit, lloraron amargamente was perfect :) - Kiwi-Girl, Mar 11, 2013
