No. 14 - Weekly perífrasis verbales: Practice Exercise: dejar de + infinitivo (stop doing something I used to do).

La perífrasis verbal de hoy es: dejar de + infinitivo (stop doing something I used to do).

Dejar de + infinitivo" significa que hemos dejado de hacer algo que solíamos hacer por alguna razón.

Example / Ejemplo:

He dejado de ir al gimnasio porque no tenía tiempo.

I have stopped going to the gym because I had no time.

A ‘perífrasis verbal’ is a structure with a helping verb plus an ‘infinitivo’ or a ‘gerundio’ (verb that ends in ar, er, ir).

Let’s practice a few of these in simple sentences. Here are the rules:

1.One sentence per post.

2.Use the ‘perífrasis verbal’ for this week in a sentence in Spanish. Then write it in English.

3.You may post one image to illustrate your sentence.

Una “perífrasis verbal” tiene una estructura con un verbo auxiliar y un “infinitivo” o “gerundio”.

Vamos a practicar un poco estas estructuras en oraciones simples. Estas son las reglas:

1.Una oración por respuesta

2.Usa la perífrasis verbal escogida para esta semana y escribe una oración con ella en español y en inglés.

3.Puedes usar una imagen para ilustrar tu respuesta.

La traducción en este caso es irrelevante. En España, y en los países de habla española, no se cocinan galletas en el hogar. De hecho la cultura gastronómica es la opuesta: sólo comemos dulces hechos por profesionales. - igual2, Mar 14, 2013

Esta es una frase complicada. Puedes mejorarla diciendo "Dejé de bailar por las noches, pero el 17 de marzo volví a hacerlo". Algunas veces en español hay que usar varios verbos para dejar clara una acción. Es complejo. - SilviaC, Mar 21, 2013

For those who regularly participate in this thread:

Normally I post on Sunday night (Americas side of globe) so SilviaC can correct simultaneously on Monday morning (Spain side of globe).

Because Spain has a holiday Monday, I will post on Monday night this week & SilviaC will correct on Tuesday after the holiday is over.
