A research paper concerning The Spanish language, culture, and/or history? It would help if you would give a little more definition of your parameters.

For the language, I would suggest a research effort on the split between Latin American Spanish and Castillian Spanish, the rise of the vosotros form and leísmo in Spain and the use of voseo in certain Latin American countries. Lots of easily found material on that subject.
