For has more meanings than because of does. When it comes to the meaning: for a reason we use because of.. while when we talk about a purpose we need for. I hope this can help

Yes, well said. And in this sense, it´s the same thing we English speakers struggle with, with Para and Por, sometimes. Para (for the purpose - in order to) and Por (for the reason). It is almost always ¨thanks for¨ just like ¨gracias por¨

So, Jubilados idea to say it in a different way in the two sections is probably best, but if you wanted to keep it very close to your original, then using For for both is probably best.

When you want to put emphasis on the reason behind something happening you can use "because of", "I'm happy because of (for) all the wonderful things that have happened to me."

Generally after "Thanks" we say "for" and sometimes it points to the thing or event that we are grateful for. You do not hear "Thanks because of" often. You might hear "I am thankful because of...", then you list things, persons, events that you are giving thanks for.

Your English sentence is understandable but "opportunity" is the correct spelling, we don't use "the" before destiny - so it's "Thanks to destiny...", and after the phrase "Thanks... for..." the verb is in the "-ing" form (participle / gerund): "Thanks to destiny for putting..."

The first part of your sentence could be "Thanks to the universe for the opportunity..." and it really doesn't make any difference in the meaning. Using a different phrase is good style to avoid repeating a phrase.

I hope this helped!
