"Dar de alta" definition

Hi, could anyone tell me what "dar de alta" means?

The context of the sentence is: la compañía recomienda sus clientes se den de alta en "Iberia Conecta"....

I've done a bit of research and I think if different contexts "dar de alta" can mean "to discharge". And if it's reflexive, "darse de alta" it can mean "to register".

If anyone could clarify this, that would be great! And also, how would you translate "dar de baja"? Thank you!!!

Hi, hannah93. I will explain to you about "dar de baja", since the phrase "dar de alta" has been explained very good.

Well, the phrase "dar de baja" is a common phrase used in many cotexts, such us:

  • When you have something (a radio,a TV, etc) and for some reason you don not want to have it in your house anymore, so you can say "voy a dar de baja este televisor porque ya es demasiado viejo", maybe you give it away, maybe you throw it out, etc. The point is you get rid of it.

  • The phrase can be used even when a boss is dissapointed with his employee, so he can say "voy a dar de baja a este trabajador porque no cumple con lo que le ordeno", meaning that the boss is going to get rid of his employee by saying to him: you´re fired.

Hello!

"Dar de alta" means Sign Up, when the context is about a system or something like that. "Dar de baja" is like unsubscribe.
