Yes, the usage might be a bit strange, so I´m with you, But there are many many verbs we use in one context or voice or mood, but might not in another, even though it would be perfectly correct, technically.. There are those cases where foreigner might say, ¨Could I say XYZ¨and we have to answer ¨Yes, and it would be correct, but we´d never say it quite that way¨
