"Imaginar" is to represent or believe a certain thing so we use it as a transitive verb, ie: "imagina todo lo que podrás hacer después de la universidad" ..... "imagine everything that you´ll be able to do after university".

"Imaginarse" is to imagine something within. When we use it as a reflexive verb, we don´t need an object, ie: "¡Qué padre sería rico! Imagínate nada más!" .... "How great it would be to be rich! Just imagine!"

isn't the verb transitive in this case? "Siempre está en el balcón y *se* imagina *mil aventuras* fuera de los muros del castillo" (From a book of fairy tales) - Winand, Jun 6, 2017
