extrañar ( ex-trahn-yar' )

verb ( to miss, long for )

We are looking for an official corrector for the Spanish sentences. If you are interested, please send me a PM.

Estamos buscando un corrector oficial de las frases en español. Si usted está interesado, por favor envíeme un PM.

Sinmeta will be correcting the Spanish sentences as his time permits. We still need more help with this very important task. Please correct your sentences according to his suggestions.

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Have fun experimenting with Spanish

How to post a picture

Examples:

1. El perro extraña a su amo cuando se va de viaje.

The dog misses his owner when he travels.

2. Ha pasado un año desde la muerte de Eduardo, y Claudiade vez en cuando lo extraña. Pero a pesar de esos momentos súbitos de añoranza, ella y Ramón están celebrando la llegada de su primer hijo, a quien le han dado el nombre de Eduardo.

It's been a year since Eduardo's death, and Claudia finds herself missing him from time to time. But despite those unexpected moments of nostalgia, she and Ramón can't help but celebrate the birth of their first son, whom they've named Eduardo.

Notes

¡Y colorín colorado, este cuento se ha acabado! / And they all lived happily ever after! Make sure to check out our Word of the Day for new "novelas" in our series!

Until we have an official Spanish corrector, please help with any suggestions to the Spanish sentences as you are able. It is very much appreciated. Thank you all for being here at SD and for participating in La Palabra Del Dia!

Luis, The phrasing would be slightly different on English. When a person is far (away) from his loved ones, he often misses them. - sinmeta, Feb 28, 2013
Es cierto. - sinmeta, Feb 28, 2013
I meant "in English", not "on English". Sorry. - sinmeta, Feb 28, 2013
could you also say it like that in Spanish luisssito ...i.e "a menudo los extraña." - Ansionnach, Feb 28, 2013

Ayer tuve una llamada del cielo que extrañan el ángel más dulce y más amable. Pero no te preocupes, no te revelaré.

Extraño el patio de recreo y los animals y desenterrando lombrices

Extraño el comodidad de mi madre y el peso del mundo

Extraño mi hermana, extraño mi padre, extraño mi perro y mi casa

Sí, extraño el aburrimiento y la libertad y mi vez solo

I miss the playground and the animals and digging up (unearthing) worms

I miss the comfort of my mother and the weight of the world

I miss my sister, I miss my father, I miss my dog and my home

Yeah, I miss the boredom and the freedom and my time alone

(This must be a nightmare to sing in Spanish)

Se dice que el tiempo lo cura todo .... pero esta herida no se curará. Parece que cuanto más tiempo estás muerto, más te extraño.

Time heals all wounds they say .... but this one wound won't heal. Seems like the longer you're dead, the more I miss you.
