Tocar is a very flexible verb and you may come across this verb in some sentences where it's not easy to guess its meaning. If you would like to brush up on, or learn the main meanings of, this verb I hope that this lesson will help.

Tocar is a stem changing verb .The stem changing verb is when the verb is irregular and can change its ending like ar,er and ir. It means to touch So, the most common i used in my class was tocar yo- toco tu- tocas el>toca ella >toca usted>toca nosotros/as-tocamos vosotros/as-tocáis ellos>tocan ellas>tocan ustedes>tocan

Great thread. I need to find time to go read Rodney´s post this weekend. They´re always good.

I was listening to a podcast that includes a lot of Columbian Spanish just earlier this week, and remember them mentioning that they have another use of tocar, which is to use it in place of tener-que,, as in have to. I guess it´s a bit like the ¨it´s my turn¨ use of ¨me toca¨ if you stretch it a bit. but it was certainly a new use for this kid.

That blog post actually isn't mine, but the girl who wrote it is a great blogger and her blog is centered around Colombian Spanish. - rodneyp, Apr 5, 2013
