Alguien me puede explicar la diferencia entre los verbos aconsejar y consejar?

Can anyone explain aconsejar vs consejar to me?

My dictionary shows only the former verb, but I've seen the latter.

Gracias

In my textbook, "Aventuras" (page 318 in the third edition) in the section on using the subjunctive with words of will and influence lists aconsejar as one of those verbs. - kirk1, Feb 25, 2013

The verb consejar does not exist. Aconsejar is the action of giving a consejo to another person.

Actually, consejar does exist but it´s no longer used. The RAE considers it anticuated so they have stopped publishing its conjugations.

Interesting. Thanks! Now I can´t find the darn passage that originally spurred this question. Maybe tomorrow. I suppose in any event, it´s not a word I need to worry about much. - rogspax, Feb 25, 2013

I found this sentence with aconsejar divided into two words ( a consejar) Don't know if it's correct or not.

A consejar y hacer recomendaciones a la escuela y los administradores del distrito escolar y el consejo escolar local en relación a la escuela y sus programas,

Advise and make recommendations to school and school district administrators and the local school board regarding the school and its programs,

Thanks swampy. I wonder if the above example is just the preposition ´a´ in front of the infinitive ´consejar´ - rogspax, Feb 25, 2013
