Help with Sentence for the day.

Question

I have a co-worker who's native language is Spanish, shes helping me with my Spanish, each day I'm supposed to bring/speak a new "sentence"

Can you tell me if this is correct, I'm trying to say, " I'm glad today is Friday"

Me alegro de que hoy es viernes. ( Translation from Google Translator )

You could say, "Me alegra que es viernes." Alegrar is used with the meaning of "makes me happy" like the verb gustar. There may be a more idiomatic way to say it, but your friend should understand what you are trying to say and will give you the proper words. Saying something incorrectly is not to be feared, because these are the experiences that stick with us and help us remember and learn.
