Virus or Hacked?

Virus or Hacked?

It seems a lot of people have been having problems with their brower crashing while on this site like I have been. I always use one of the top anti virus programs but, this is almost becoming a panacea (something that is thought to be a cure or remedy but probably is really not) because of the advanced methods of hackers around the world including, as it has been reported in the media, the military of one or more nations that I will not mention. The number of government organizations and large companies that have been hacked into is staggering. While on SpanishDict.com, I just got a message that said something like "Do you want to allow this site to copy files to your computer?" I said no, of course. Why would the site be trying to copy files to my computer. What do you thinK?

About a week ago I clicked on the Spanishdict shortcut on my desktop and I got a big warning box from Google Chrome browser saying that a malware program was trying to insert itself into the website and Google wouldn't let me access the website. They gave a name of the culprit that is known for malware activity but I don't remember it. Anyway I tried a couple more times during the next hour and got the same message. I ran a malware scan that turned up nothing and since then, no problem.

I think the responses have indicated a cause for concern and also suggested that our anti virus software is providing us some protection.

I use IE8 and AVG, and a couple of days ago when logging on to the site, I got a message that AVG had neutralized a trojan horse virus. Unfortunately, I didn't write down the name of the malware.

This site isn't trying to copy your files. I get error messages sometimes too, but mine had to do with my chosen browser. I use Google Chrome. You might want to check with whomever you use and see if they can answer your concerns. I'm not saying it couldn't be a problem here, but if it is, I think a lot more folks would be having the same problem. If you haven't already, you may want to send that through feedback to see if they can help as well. Thank you, Kirk.

That's a new one, certainly an individual acting though with a prompt like that. I've never had any problems and I've been on here since '08... but then again this is a language learning site, wouldn't seem too logical to me to disrupt things here. Anyways, all I can say is the US gov. is surely some crazy scheißers with a never ending agenda to micro-manage the world. Back to your question though, and pardon my rambling, I'm not aware of anything going at this time. However, I will converse with some of the other admin and staff to see what we can come up with. Thanks for the info kirk.
