"Thanks anyway"

Question

Thanks anyway has a specific implication of "thanks for trying" to help or whatever This website says a todos modos, which does not have that implication. What are your thoughts?

I understand "thanks anyway" means when a person is not so satisfied with any help. This is translated as "gracias de todos modos" or "gracias de todas maneras".

it does usually mean that no satisfying conclusion was reached but it is still an expression of thanks for the effort that someone put in to help - so it's not a way to voice dissatisfaction, it is a polite expression :) - Kiwi-Girl, Feb 20, 2013

I would say Gracias por intentarlo. 'Thanks any way is liken you said really Thanks for trying. Gracias por intentarlo Thanks for trying.

I mentally translate "de todos modos" or "de todas formas" as "regardless". Thus understood, you can see how it really serves both purposes ("thanks for trying", and "thanks either way") in both languages and its ultimate meaning simply depends on when you say it. "Regardless, thanks" said after someone tries to do something for you expresses the former sentiment; "regardless, thanks" said before they try, expresses the latter.

En mi imagen mental, traduzco "de todos modos" o "de todas formas" como "regardless". Así entendido, es posible ver cómo sirve por ambos significados ("thanks for trying", así como "thanks either way") en ambas idiomas y el sentido final depende, simplemente, de cuando lo digas. "Regardless, thanks" después de que alguien intente hacer algo para ti, significa el primero; "regardless, thanks" antes de que intenten, significa el último.

And it also works this way/sirve así también: So anyway (i,e. "regardless of what we've just been talking about"), let's go have a drink/De todas formas, vamos a tomar una copita, vale?

(Here, "entonces" can also serve the purpose, since the idea is to segue into the next thing. Aquí, "entonces" sirve también, ya que la idea es pasar a la siguiente cosa.)

And also this way/además sirve así: I'm going to do it anyway ("regardless")/Lo hago de todos modos.

And here/y así: Thanks anyway (lit. "thanks, regardless of the outcome")/Gracias de todas formas.

At least, that's how I have come to process it, and someone please correct me if I'm not capturing it accurately (and my spanish, too, which can always benefit from grammar and tone corrections, haha!) Por lo menos, eso es como he venido yo a entenderlo, y alguien debería decirme si no estoy capturando lo esencial de las frases, porfi!
