It's me again, please tell me which word is the best to mean "plato". (It's about vocabulary for the kitchen as fork, spoon, glass...)

What pmikan-pam said, right on. In addition, dishes, can mean all the items used to serve food: dish, plate, cups, saucers, bowls, glasses, etc. So we say "Wash the dishes". - Jubilado, Feb 18, 2013

Very good question, a plate is a specific kind of dish. A dish can be any kind of utensil used to hold or serve food. A plate is primarily flat and suitable for holding food that does not have a high liquid content used for main course of a meal.

A plate is a type of dish, although usually we mean dinner plate, salad plate, bread plate, saucer, etc. We don't usually mean cups or bowls or glasses, although they can be included in "Wash the dishes". Similer to "Vajilla"

"Dish" can also be used in the sense of the food being served, as in "Meatloaf is my favorite dish ".

In slang, now somewhat old, it used to refer to an attractive woman, like "She's a real dish".
