washing-up liquid VS dishwashing liquid

Question

Hello everybody! I'm creating a study's vocabulary list about the kitchen and I need your help, please tell me which term should I use to mean detergente líquido para trastes

washing-up liquid / dishwashing liquid

You could use dish washing liquid, dish washing soap, OR even just dish soap (the more common phrase in the US). I don't recall ever hearing of the phrase "washing up liquid " in the southern portion of the US. I cannot speak for other areas of this country or other English speaking areas. HTH

Being a Texan I'd say the later in your question would be more American. I have heard and used Dish Detergent and Dish Soap (Dishwashing Liquid) as pumpkincalabaza stated. The difference being Dish Detergent is usually a powder or granulated substance (or atleast the Cascade I use is) and the Dish Soap is obviously a liquid. Note: Never ever put Soap in your dishwasher! Jajaja... it's not pretty. On a side note, Wikipedia states "washing-up liquid" to be the British English for Dish Soap. See below for example:

We (my circle of friends and acquaintances) call the stuff we put in the dishwasher "dish detergent" and the stuff we use to wash dishes by hand "dish soap"

I would call it dish soap. I would use the term dishwasing liquid or powder for automatic dishwashers.
