How do I get started?
how do i get started

Welcome,
I'm just getting "Started" as well.
I can only share my experiences thus far.
Classes: Currently my schedule will not allow me to attend a class, although I think that might be best interacting with a teacher at first, building a foundation. Maybe this is an option for you. Our local university offers continuing education classes.
Software: There are many great programs you can use to learn on your own, do research and see what fits you. I would advise that you stay away from anything that says you can speak Spanish in 30minutes-10days (not going to happen LOL). They may teach you a few basic words, but you can find that and more right here at Spanishdict, I purchased Rosetta Stone, its a huge program and will take many months to complete at best. Although Rosetta Stone is very popular it does get mixed reviews.. Price is one of the drawbacks. I can already tell that using Rosetta Stone alone will not be enough,
Online: There are TON of web-sites you can use to help you, Google is your friend. I've looked at several but I have found Spanishdict the most helpful, seems to have what I need, and simple to navigate One of the members here suggested the I use flashcards that you can create here at Spanishdict, there is a link at the bottom of your profile to do this. I've found the flashcards very helpful, as I learn new words I want to remember I create a new flashcard, its a great way to orginize and keep reviewing the new words you learn.
Immersion Immerse yourself in as much Spanish as you can, Spanish TV, Spanish Movies, Spanish music, speak with as many Spanish speaking people as you can. I recently attended a friends birthday party where everyone there spoke Spanish as their native language, great experience.
Practice: Whatever methods you choose, regular practice will be best. Daily, even if you can only spend a few minutes some days. I find regular practice helps me retain those few things I know.
Determination In my opinion this may be the biggest Key to success. Think of learning a new Language as a marathon versus a sprint. Those with determination and proper training will finish the race, but know ahead of time there will be rough spots, and be prepared to drive on. Determine your motive for wanting to learn and always keep this in mind it will help.
Okay, enough rambling from this newbie... wishing you all the best in your journey to learn Spanish
You've already started by registering. Now, if you haven't already, fill in your profile. (Gender, location, language levels, area where you live). Then go to the learn tab, select learn Spanish, and watch the first video. Then you're started. If you need help, people on this forum will be glad to answer questions and guide you to further resources as you need them. Good luck.
