Adjustments or positions

Hi all,

I´m looking for a way to express two things, both concerning things one might turn on or off, or also turn and adjust over a range, such as knobs on a stove, or water faucets, or controls on stereo, or of course, given the asker here, knobs and screws on racing suspension. I´m looking for ways to express the controls being at one extreme or the other.

1) It is all the loose. or It is all the way backed off. or It is set to minimum

and

2= It is set full tight. or It is turned on the way on. or It is set to maximum.

Also, terms for clockwise and counterclockwise, fully, would be helpful. - rogspax, Feb 16, 2013
Over my linguistic head of course but how did the meeting with the customer go? - kirk1, Feb 16, 2013
Thanks Kirk. Pretty well I think. Provided I get my passport sorted out in time, they're sending me airline tickets to be down in Toluca the week after next to tune and coach at their opening round, and then to go out to their vacation home afterwards. - rogspax, Feb 16, 2013
Did some impromptu work for four Mexican customers here in TX this weekend too and learned some more terms, which then lead me to more questions as in this thread. - rogspax, Feb 16, 2013
I have traveled and worked internationally a lot but only a limited amount in Mexixo. My limited experiance would indicate the the food is really good. - kirk1, Feb 17, 2013
As in some cultures, there may be a lot of people in a business meeting. I asked if an interpreter was needed. They said no, they all understand English. It was obvious that they did not. There are often language barriers even in the USA - kirk1, Feb 17, 2013
Agreed, I learned that years ago in Taipei and Sendai and Kuala Lumpur above all else. Got a refresher last week from nearby Mexico. The differences can be sublte, but still bite one in the butt, as they did to me 2 days ago, to the tune of almost $500. - rogspax, Feb 17, 2013
Note, not complaining, the experience, is overall worth it. Just a reminder that crossing cultures is sometimes more painful than a mispronounced verb and a red face.. Despite that, wouldn´t trade it for the world. - rogspax, Feb 17, 2013
Something that we refer to, more or less as a collective noun, the fork, they refer to in the plural (the 2 tubes of the fork, las barras). My box with one shock got through fine. My box with one fork got held in customs, because I wrote quantity 1 - rogspax, Feb 17, 2013
because to them, it was, Dos barras. They sometimes use 1 horquilla, just as we say 1 fork, but apparently that method, despite seeing it in many Spanish magazines, is not the default for Mexican customs. I now get to eat hundreds of dollars of shipping. - rogspax, Feb 17, 2013

concerning things one might turn on or off...

Knobs on a stove = Están cerrados o apagados / Están abiertos o encendidos

Water faucets = Están cerrados / Están abiertos

Stereo controls = Están apagados / Están encendidos

It is all the loose.

Está flojo o abierto

It is set to minimum

Está al mínimo

It is set full tight

Está cerrado

it is turned on the way on

Está abierto o encendido

It is set to maximum

Está al máximo
