Which one is the correct question: ¿Adónde fueron Juan y Rosa el verano pasado? or ¿Adónde fueron el verano pasado Juan y Rosa?

The second question sounds funny to me, but I have seen sentences that end with the names of people. Am I correct?

They are both fine. You place them depending on what part of the question you want to emphasize. The first one emphasizes that you are asking where they went "last summer." The second emphasizes that you are asking about Juan and Rosa.

Interesting. I assume then that the second is an idiomatic expression. Adonde to me means "where to". - 00a50c57, Feb 16, 2013

The first sentence is correct, Juan and Rosa are the subject of the verb fueron. In a question it is common for the verb to be folllowsed by the subject.
