Reputation Points for Beginners

Question

I'm unclear on how one is supposed to earn reputation points. I've read many forum posts asking the same question but the reply seems to be a generic answer a link to a badly written info page. I've read it...it only list ways to gain reputation points for <10 points. What do you do to get the first 10? Gracias por tu ayuda.

You will automatically accumulate Reputation Points when you post an interesting, thoughtful, or helpful question. You will also gain points by answering questions for other members in the same manner.

Like anything else, you get out of this what you put into it. So answers just to get points are a waste of everyone time. Fortunately most of the time, the questions and answers are best efforts.
