The good forum user fills in his* profile before he asks a question on the forum. It's up to him to decide what information to share and how he'll self-assess his knowledge of English and Spanish - but there must be something, however small, which the other users can rely on when they try to help him.

The good forum user clearly states what he wants. Maybe he hesitates between two synonymous words, maybe he wants his text to be proofread, maybe he needs to know how to say 'X' in a certain language. There are all sorts of questions that may be asked and two different languages so simply pasting a text with the subject "help" and leaving it at that might get you answers you weren't looking for or no answers at all.

The good forum user does his homework - literally and otherwise. He checks the translation tool, he looks at the grammar section. There are traces of an active effort in his post, you can see he tried to answer his question but couldn't or isn't sure about the answer he got. Effort is always appreciated.

The good forum user checks his spelling and tries to make grammatically correct sentences to the best of his ability. The forum tool has a spell check function built in (for English at least). The good forum user takes a look at his question/answer after he's posted it to make sure formatting hasn't gone terribly wrong.

The good forum user is aware that the people who reply to his question use their own free time to do so and he values that. He strives to be specific so that answering takes up as little time as possible.

The good forum user cares about the other forum users and so they care back! grin

*Or her. Of course women are included. I simply choose economy of speech over political correctness.

I think that this is well worth voting up , it is well written and covers

most of the relevant issues . Thank you Manity. I would just like to add

that members remember to give their votes freely in order

to encourage members in their quest to learn this great language.
