A favorite trick to learn words through images

A favorite trick to learn words through images

A favorite way to learn Spanish words and the slight meaning differences for me is to type in the word into my image search engine. It gives a visual picture of what the words mean and can give hints to hidden meanings when used as slang.

I was looking for 'frightening' today and the translator gave me 3 options:

espantosa, aterradora, and escalofriante

I put each in the search engine and that really helped me to know which of these would fit best in my sentence.

Just a little tip I thought I'd share.

If you want to try it yourself and post the images and Spanish words in the answer box, go ahead. We can all learn from your research.

Good idea Katya, but am I doing it right ? I was never good at games , well, some games perhaps . - ray76, Jan 27, 2013
You did not do 'Katerina' right. hahahah but the other one, yes. I've got to keep an eye on you unless you are in Borneo. Then it's someone else's job. - katydew, Jan 27, 2013
I used to do the same search , but it's very useful in the hidden meaning , great post Katy !:). - shish75, Jan 27, 2013
Thanks Shish. - katydew, Jan 27, 2013

I do the same thing! It's so helpful! You just have to be careful sometimes for those hidden meanings, since sometimes I feel like I have to go soak my eyes in the sink after looking up some words I thought were quite innocent!

A little boy in Mexico told me that they call ladybugs catarinas. So whenever I think of a lady's first name being Katarina, I think of a ladybug!

Piedra, I love the Catarina and the ladybug image. You are right about the images. But it's a learning experience for me of what not to use. I have mine set to sort out some images that are offensive. Nice post. Thanks for joining in. - katydew, Jan 28, 2013

There is no stopping you now. I was tempted to try to 'one up' you by typing in Ray but figured I'd just get sunsets, sunrises and dancing sunbeams. I'm resigned, you win... that doesn't happen often, enjoy the glory. - katydew, Jan 28, 2013
