Is the word for cooked chicken different than the word for live chicken? thank you.

The cooked bird is found on menus under Pollo

At the farm you´ll have to request la gallina or el gallo

"Pollo" is used either for cooked or live (at least in Argentina).

"Gallo" is an adult "pollo". "Pollito" is used for the little (newborn) male or female.

All this may change according to localities.

Yes, chicken that is food is usually referred to as "el pollo." However, pullets (young hens) are "pollitas" and older hens are "gallinas."
