Poner dedo/poner sobre la pista

Question

I would like to ask what are the meanings of the expressions: "poner dedo" and "poner sobre la pista". I suppose that the first one means "to accuse" and the second means "to give a clue", but I'm not so sure.

Poner dedo a algo is similar to echarle mano a algo or echar mano de algo. The first one is more used in Mexico and the second options are widely used everywhere. But they all mean to grab something that does not belong to you (a nice way of saying to steal). It's kind of like to have sticky fingers in English.

Poner el dedo (en la llaga) means to rub it in or to make someone feel even worse about something. Also, to rub salt into somebody's wounds would be a close equivalent.

Señalar con el dedo means to point the finger at someone (to accuse or to blame someone; to identify someone as the guilty person).

Poner sobre la pista is to give out clues about something.
