Should I use "ser" or "estar" with "perdido?"

I have looked up on your website whether to use Estar or Ser with perdido and got 2 radically different answers. Which should it be please?

Estar perdido --- to be lost as in not finding your bearings. To be in an unknown location.
Ser perdido --- like Iliones so very well said in Spanish, it means to be on a bad path in life (out of work, breaking the law, harming people). It means having lost your way in life.

Siempre es utilizando el verbo Estar
Puede existir un significado de "ser un perdido" pero dicha frase significaría que eres lo peor y que te dedicas a la mala vida .( no trabajas, robas, haces mal a la gente).
