The Meaning of This Confusing Sentence

As I was studying different Spanish sentences today, I encountered one that bewildered me. Here it is:

"A mis abuelitos siempre se les enfriaba la sopa porque les gustaba mucho platicar."

My question is, why is (mis abuelitos) in the plural, but the conjugated verb (enfriaba) is in the third-person singular?

Thank you for your help!

You grandparents are not the ones getting cold. The soup (singular) is.

So, would the sentence be translated as, "The soup of my grandparents always cooled because they liked to talk so much?" - 001fa605, Jan 6, 2013

Because we're talking about "one soup".

On the other hand: A mis abuelitos se les enfriaban sus palomitas porque.... (popcorn)
