el estar is used to describe a room or ? in a house or apartment in Uruguay. What is the meaning?

Thanks Julian, That makes sense. The way it is used "living room" fits. They shorten to estar instead of sala - jeagles, Jan 2, 2013

I am not sure how "estar" is used in Uruguay, but in Mexico a living room is called "la sala de estar" and usually shortened to just "la sala." This can be in either a house or an apartment. "El cuarto de estar" is used in other places and has a similar meaning "the principal room of the house."

We also have other uses of "estar" such as "el bien estar de alguien" ... "the well being of someone."
