That means to get in the mood. But I have only know mood used as humor in spanish. I looked up tono and it said "key" or "tone" I'm trying to connect that to mood, so that it makes sense to me.

It's a good idea to look for connections to help us to remember things, but be careful with this idiomatic sentences, whose meaning is not based on the isolated words, but rather they are linked to certain contexts and they have subtle connotations.
"Ponerse a tono" has a clear sexual tone, don't use it in every context.
