¿En qué países hispanohablantes se utiliza jalar o halar? En México siempre he oído decir jalar.

Jalar in written form I've only seen in Mexico. In other countries, like Colombia, Panama, Venezuela and Argentina I've heard jalar and halar. However, in written form, I've only seen halar. In Spain, I've only seen and heard halar. I personally say and write halar.

Good question. "halar" seems to have a more limited context..".to pull by a rope" while "jalar" has a lot more meanings.

La verdad yo siempre he escuchado "jalar" (SV)... Y escrito "halar". XD. Es una inconsistencia idiomática, pero subsistirá hasta que se acepte universalmente al verbo "jalar", pues por mi parte me parece mejor que "halar".

Wow. I did not even know there was a word Halar. In Mexico it is Jalar for everything.

I learned something new today. Thanks all.

In Guatemala it's "Halar," which makes no sense to me because if the "h" is always silent why do we pronounce it "Jalar?" Silly, I say.
