La Palabra del Día: "denunciar"

La Palabra del Día: "denunciar"

denunciar ( deh-noon-see-ar' )

verb ( to denounce, to condemn, to report )

Francobollo is the official corrector for the Spanish sentences. Please correct your posts according to his suggestions. There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Have fun experimenting with Spanish.

How to post a picture

Examples:

1. El accidente de carro fue denunciado a la policía.

The car accident was reported to the police.

2. Por fin llega el momento esperado: Claudia ve a su madre y la confronta, denunciándole por haber abandonado a su propia hija y dejarla pensar que estaba muerta.

The moment has arrived: Claudia sees her mother and confronts her, condemning her for having abandoned her own daughter and letting her think she was dead.

Notes:

The 2nd example sentence is part of our special new Word of the Day "novela" series. Check it out from the beginning on December 1 and stay tuned tomorrow for the next chapter!

En la oración 2 yo no usaría "denunciándole", sino "reprochándole" - maestroantonio, Dec 20, 2012
I am in perfect agreement with you, maestro. I would use recriminándole. - francobollo, Dec 20, 2012

Well, then send something through feedback to Elise. Or, send her a pm. "elisesd" is her pm name. She is a native Spanish speaker, so if there is a mistake, she can take care of it. - rac1, Dec 20, 2012

Denunciar a los corruptos es un deber que puede acarrear consecuencias graves para todos los involucrados.

Reporting corruption is a duty that can; nonetheless, carry grave consequences for all parties involved.

Después de la crisis financiera muchas personas denunciaron a los bancos y los especuladores, pero parece que todavía están haciendo las mismas cosas.

After the financial crisis many people denounced the banks and the speculators, but it seems they are still doing the same things.

Si conoces a alguien te ha hecho daño ,puedes denunciarle . Debería existir una sistema para denunciar a las personas que tengan buenas acciones para los demás

If you know someone who has done something bad to you it's possible to report them. There should be a system to report people who do good deeds to others

I want to take this opportunity to condemn the acts of grafitti artists. I believe it is wrong to deface other peoples' property.

Hay muchas guerras en el mundo y todas las guerras son horibles, pero creo que las guerras civiles son las guerras más terible de todas, porque un hijo puede denunciar a su padre, un hermano puede delatar a su mismísimo gemelo y las familias no pueden confiarse en nadie.

There are many wars in the world and they are all horrible, but I think that civil wars are the most terrible wars of all, because a son might inform against his father, a brother report on his very twin and families can't trust anyone whatsoever.
