Te prohibo que compres algo.

Te recomiendo que hagas galletas

Te Dice que estudies

Why can sentences such as the above ones take IDO in the first clause whereas the below sentences don't

Quiero que compres un perro

Espero que vengas a la fiesta

Prefiero que viajes a Perú

I think "Te Dice que estudies" is wrong. I think you wanted to say "Te digo que estudies" - pitocles, Dec 18, 2012

Even though all 6 verbs are transitive, the last 3 cannot be used with IDO pronouns because the meaning of the sentence would change, ie: "Te quiero que compres un perro" would ackwardly mean "I love you that you buy a dog."

Te quiero a ti - no, porque quiero que compres......

Te espero a ti - no porque espero que viajes.....

Te prohibo a ti - sï

Te digo a ti - sí

I don´t know if is there is a rule to tell you which verbs cannot use IDO pronouns, but growing up with the language we just know which verbs can and cannot.
