How would you translate this phrase:
"Nos pasamos la vida engordando polémicas de asuntos que no tienen fuste." I find it really hard to translate. I know that engordar means - to put on weight, to fatten up, increase but I cannot fit it into the sentence correctly.
We spend our lives exaggerating matters of no importance.
Does any of you have a better idea of how to translate this phrase?

Engordar (to fatten) is being used figuratively as well as fuste (basis for something). - francobollo, Dec 15, 2012

We spend our lives blowing up arguments about things that have no base ( in reality) .
