It's because the bueno/a/s has to match the that noun it modifies.

It's 'los' días - masculine plural so it's 'buenos'.

It's 'las' noches - feminine plural so it's 'buenas'

In Spanish, words can be masculine or feminine.

  • In most cases, if a the last vowel of a word is "o", then it will be considered a masculine word, therefore, the article should be masculine. (Some exceptions apply)

  • The same way when the last vowel of a word is "a", then it will be considered a feminine word, therefore, the article should be feminine. (Some exceptions apply)

  • In your case, "buenos" , the last vowel is an "o", therefore, it is masculine, and "buenas", the last vowel is an "a", therefore, it is feminine.
  • P.S. The "s" tells you the word is plural, therefore, the article should be plural as well.

Hello. Good question.... well the answer is simple really, the difference is that "día" is a masculine noun and you just have to get used to masculine nouns that don't end in 'o' because they are quite common.

The gender of nouns.

I pressed enter too soon ..... Buen is also used before femine words beginning with the letter "a" to facilitate pronounciation.

Not quite. The words are masculine. Like buen día, buen maestro, buen alumno, etc. - francobollo, Dec 11, 2012
