Can anyone please tell me what the following sentence means. I am somewhat lost in translation at present. I am doing a quizz on News in Slow Spanish but need to understand what I am reading.
Cuando no la llamaban de espectáculos, obras de teatro o de funciones en la ciudad, la llamaban del extranjero o para hacer películas.

When she was not getting called to do shows, plays or presentations in the city she would get called from abroad to make movies
or
When she was not being offered shows, plays or presentations in the city she would receive offers from abroad to make movies.
