When we lived in Santiago we visited the Tobalaba market alongside the Canal San Carlos every Saturday where we used to buy almost all our food and to listen to the market sellers. I had some problems choosing the principal tense for this answer but I concluded that the Preterit was the most appropriate. Another Spanish language site says "The preterite is used for actions that were repeated a specific number of times, or occurred during a specific period of time." and I believe that "cuando vivimos en Santiago" fulfils this condition especially considering that this was from around February 1968 to March 1974.
