We are 'muñecas sin rostro' (faceless dolls) and though the colors of our faces range from white to dark brown, we have no facial features because we reflect the mixture of Dominican culture, a variety of ethnic and racial groups from all around the world.
Traditionally we were made of red clay but nowadays we are also made of ceramic and other brightly colored clays.
We wear traditional outfits and often carry items, such as a bouquet of flowers or an animal.
We are mainly sold as souvenirs, but the people from the Dominican Republic themselves like us too.
Sometimes we are called "the face of Dominican crafts."
Ah, ok, it's faceless.
Are they hand crafted?
Are they given when a girl has her 'quinceanera' or 15th birthday?

Does it have to do with food preparation like pepper salt or salsa?

I guess they are faceless because people in the country look / looked differently and that is why they could not create any typical face. So they made them faceless.
They are faceless zombies, people without a country when the Haitians had power over the D.R. many moons ago.
