Does anyone use "marcador" or "marcadora" to mean a felt tip pen?

Question

A previous teacher taught my students "marcador" or "marcadora" for a marker pen. I'm actually not sure which way as the students seem to disagree.

I only find this used for a road marker, or something of that nature.

I'm teaching my students "el rotulador" for a marker pen.

You mean those to highlight words or those that are used for colouring and draw?

Highlighter = "Resaltador" (South America)

Colouring marker = "Marcador / Fibrón / Fibra" (Again, South America)

Marked that are hard to (or impossible) take off: "Marcador indeleble"

I used the word marcador in Costa Rica for a magic marker.

These kinds of words are so regional that it is a good lesson for your students to know that the word they learn in one place may not be understood in others. - katydew, Nov 28, 2012
